Formlabs recently commissioned an independent survey to evaluate the real-world performance of its new Form 4 3D printer, and the results confirm what professionals have been hoping for: the Form 4 stands out as a leader in speed, reliability, and print quality.
The survey, conducted by an independent global leader in product testing, involved comprehensive testing of the Form 4 alongside other resin 3D printers. Participants from various industries, including engineering, manufacturing, and healthcare, evaluated the printer across key metrics critical to modern workflows.
The survey included a thorough, hands-on evaluation of the Form 4 and several other resin 3D printers on the market. While the testing was conducted independently in their labs, Formlabs defined the tests and procedures used during the evaluation. The goal was to standardise testing across all printers and ensure fair, consistent comparisons.
This standard operating procedure (SOP) included printing models from a standard setup and maintaining equivalent processing, with quality checks at each step to eliminate the risk of user error affecting results.
Following this SOP, 15 models were each printed three times on five different factory-condition printers from each manufacturer, resulting in 225 prints per printer brand. The success or failure of each print was carefully recorded to provide clear, data-driven insights into the reliability and performance of each machine.
By combining this rigorous, controlled approach with real-world usage feedback, the survey provided a comprehensive view of how the Form 4 performs across key areas, including speed, accuracy, reliability, and ease of use.
One of the most striking findings from the survey is Form 4’s significant leap in print speed. Users reported achieving high-quality parts in record time, with the printer delivering printing speeds up to four times faster than earlier Formlabs models. This speed empowers teams to iterate quickly, meet tight deadlines, and bring products to market faster without sacrificing detail or precision.
Survey results also highlighted the Form 4’s outstanding reliability. Users experienced consistently high success rates, even during large batch productions or with complex geometries. The advanced optical engine and improved resin management system play a crucial role in ensuring that each print meets demanding standards, thereby helping to reduce waste and downtime.
Participants praised Form 4’s intuitive workflow and broad material compatibility. Its easy setup, streamlined software, and wide resin selection allow professionals to adapt to changing project requirements with minimal hassle. This combination of usability and flexibility makes the Form 4 a valuable tool for both prototyping and production environments.
These independent insights make it clear: the Form 4 raises the bar for desktop resin 3D printing. To explore detailed test results, user feedback, and comparative data, Formlabs has released a comprehensive whitepaper summarising the full survey findings.
